🥰 KONBINI LOVE
Share
One of the most magical things in Japan is the abundance of incredibly well-stocked convenience stores (konbinis). There are a few major ones, and here is why I love them all.
These are the main ones:
- Â Â Â 7 & i Holding (7-11)
- Â Â Â Lawson
- Â Â Â FamilyMart
They all provide amazing food and merchandise. Some even have a shelf of Muji products, which is super helpful if you need a quick shirt or fresh pair of socks in the middle of the night.
My very most favorite thing is a Lawson egg sandwich. The bread is fluffy and fresh (possibly daily). The egg is just eggy enough, not too watered down or too milky. By the way, the milk in Japan is unmatched. You have to try it in whatever way you prefer.

My second favorite thing is the option of fresh strawberries. I honestly don’t recall which konbini has them—sorry about that. But it’s possible they all carry them while they are in season. Matching fresh strawberries with a fresh Baumkuchen (an amazing layered sponge cake) is to die for!

If that’s not enough sugar for you, there is also the classic Japanese dessert, the ichigo sando (strawberry + cream sandwich). It’s surprisingly light considering how much cream there is. I can’t recommend it enough, and that’s coming from a lactose-intolerant person.

There is also a large variety of other baked goods for snacks and breakfast—muffins, rolls, etc. All are very fresh and have all kinds of flavors, nut, fruit and other options.

If you want something a bit saltier, they have tons of chips in all flavors, including American Pringles in a variety of flavors.

To wash it all down, I like to indulge in Melon-flavored Fanta. Melon soda is very common in Japan. It’s very sweet and has a nice low-key melon taste. It’s often offered in restaurants with ice cream for a sort of Melon-Soda Float, which is very refreshing especially on a hot day.

All of the konbinis offer sushi and other standard foods, as well as snacks. Noodles and onigiri are also often in stock alongside a large variety of sandwich options and more.
Many of the stores also do collaborations with brands and media companies, offering exclusive merch. Should we see anything in our next visit, we’ll be sure to pick some up to show you.
Keep your eyes peeled.
